A lot of people are under the false perception that bodyweight workouts are only good up to a point, but once you get really good at them and want to add more resistance - you're out of luck.

I'm here to tell you that that's completely untrue.

Why?

Because due to a simple law of physics, you can take the same body, with the same weight, and put it in a position that makes the exercise more challenging!

How?

By using leverage!

What you have to do is pretty simple. In general, you have to use leverage and the laws of gravity to raise part of your body up, thus making your body heavier. For instance:

1) Put your legs on a small chair and do pushups - they're now much harder.

2) Push your legs to a longer distance when doing lunges.

3) Try doing step ups and even jump ups on a stable bench.

4) Etc...

These are just some examples of how you can use leverage and gravity to make your bodyweight workouts harder. There's no limit to what you can do when you use your imagination, (or the internet). In fact, most of these "advanced bodyweight exercises" are used all the time by professional athletes.

I actually know one guy who was in AMAZING shape from just doing bodyweight exercises, dips, and pullups (both of which can be found at your local park!). Which just goes to show that if you eat right, bodyweight exercises can be great.

Also, Leverage Can Work the Opposite Way Too...

Leverage is an equal opportunity helper, and not only can it make exercises more challenging - it can make them easier. For instance, doing knee pushups is easier than doing a full pushup. Here are some examples of leverage or gravity making exercises easier:

1) Knee Pushups

2) Pullup while standing on a chair.

3) Doing less distance on lunges.

4) Etc...

This is especially good for many women, who often feel the need to start working out with weights because bodyweight exercises are "too hard". But that's exactly why if exercises are too hard - you should make use of leverage and just make the exercises easier for yourself and build up.

Once again, this proves why bodyweight exercises are the best exercises in the world!

Did you know...You can contract two or more muscles at the same time harder than just one muscle at a time. Pretty crazy, huh?
