A little while ago, Leon asked me to do a post on jump ropes. I told him I'd do it. Afterall, I served in a special forces unit, I know advanced exercises, I know how to jump rope...it'll be an easy post.

Turns out I didn't know ANYTHING about jump roping.

[Wind surfing...the only thing cooler than jump roping?]

In fact, usually before I make a post with a new exercise, I always test it out first (in this case I couldn't because of a knee injury) but in this case...there was no way I was going to be able to do advanced jump roping.

Jump Roping - Technique, Stamina, Cardio...and Just Really, Really Cool

If you're just trying to do some cardio and have a jump rope, it's pretty simple. You fly it over your head, you jump, you get good technique with practice and then you try to up your head. You start with 20 seconds, and build to 20 minutes.

But if you want to get ADVANCED with the jump rope? Like being able to do doubles, triples, and crossovers?

That's technique on another level.

The Different Jump Roping Exercises

Here are the different jump roping exercises:

1. Double Leg Singles - This is the basic jump rope exercise, where you just jump as you bring the rope down.

2. Skipping - A little more advanced, you skip over the rope instead of jump.

3. Skipping Doubles - Bringing the rope down twice per skip.

4. Crossing Over - There are different variations, but every 4th skip you totally cross your arms and bring the rope down.

5. Double Under - Bring the rope down twice for every one jump. There are also triple unders.

Here's a video that shows all of the above exercises:

So what are you waiting for? Go learn these techniques and then show 'em off to your friends!

Did you know...You can contract two or more muscles at the same time harder than just one muscle at a time. Pretty crazy, huh?
