The Real Reason Why You Can’t Get Anything Done!

by FitJerk on November 9, 2009

This site looks like quite the place and for my first article, I figured I’d share a startling discovery I came across recently. This has resonated with a lot of people (specially my customers after they read it) and hopefully it kicks you in the right direction and/or helps you get started.

So, I was looking through my past emails a few days ago from customers, and it became blindly obvious why some succeeded and others just couldn’t seem to hit the mark (keep in mind all of these people received the exact same information). See It’s not that they couldn’t. It’s that they won’t! And that’s the truth.

Why? I duno… it’s beyond me. Could be because they don’t want it bad enough. Could be that they don’t want to put in the work… whatever. But after a few emails back and forth, all I heard was excuses. If they instead just put their heads down and said “ok I’ll do what you say”… their lives would be much better. And I would be less frustrated with their lameness.

But being frustrated and complaining isn’t what I’m about. I wanted to figure out a way around this and being a diligent guy that I am, I decided to crack this little absurdity that people go through. Why don’t people do what is necessary to get to where they want to be? Are we THAT comfortable living in pathetic misery that we can’t push ourselves just a little bit to achieve something outstanding? It can’t be true. Well turns out it is…

I was making a list of stuff I wanted done or wanted to accomplish in the near future, and as I was looking through it I was muttering to myself:

“ok let’s see what’s realistic on this list… hmm world domination… that’s a bit of a stretch *crosses out*. Date Megan Fox, hmm I could, but business is more important right now *crosses out*… launch the gold section for book holders… hmm I can’t do that till December…”

*SLAMS DESK*

“Wait a second, why can’t I? I know how to do it, and I know what content is needed and I know how to market it… Is it that I won’t?!”

And that’s when everything shifted. The next time you say “I can’t”… rephrase it into “I won’t”… and it will dawn on you what a lazy, couch potato riding, excuse making dorkface you truly are. (Actually all humans are this way so don’t feel too bad. ya dork!)

It is only after having this shift will you realize that you can pretty much follow through with any number of the whacky ideas you conjure up. What I suggest is, make a list, pick out the important stuff that will have a positive impact on your life or business and start. If you can’t start of if you can’t follow through then ask yourself…

“Is it that I can’t… or is it that I won’t do this?”

It is one word, but it makes a heck of a difference. I should know… my desk had coffee spilt all over it. Sorry desk, I’ll be gentle next time.
